well, I'll point out that if the disk is full, you won't be able to write
those files.
That said, it is possible to recover the data without the index files. I
know that Rainer has posted a link to a program to do this in the past. He
should see this thread and can hopefully pull that up easily.
I'm really not sure what the right thing to do is.
On the one hand, yes, it seems that rsyslog could decide to abandon the
data itself, on the other hand, how do you know that the user (or some cron
process) isn't going to free up enough space to allow it to shutdown
properly?
I don't think the default should change, but I could see the potential for
an option to abandon data it can't write at shutdown (and I've got a
nagging feeling that I've seen just such an option in the past)
