Do you actually need an additional frame delimiter of NUL? This sounds
rather strange...

On octet-counted framing: this seems indeed to be the new default, I just
checked the code. I think we switched the default in order to facilitate
using multi-line message (which, as David said, usually still cause a lot
of pain as most log processing tools will not work well with them).
