[quote="dlang":2e28jw1t] It's actually better to modify the AIX config (I
think it needs the -l flag added to turn this off, but it's been a couple
of years), but if you can't due to political reasons, this module cleans up
the logs so that they are easier to handle. [/quote:2e28jw1t]
Politics is always an issue, haha. But not so much in this case.
I the flag in AIX is "-n" however it isn't consistent ans sometimes you get
syslog messages with no hostname. Also the "-m" flag which is supposed to
turn off buffering doesn't seem to be working. Your plugin seems to be the
way to go.
I am fairly new to AIX, and while I am impressed by many things in that OS
compared to what I have experienced with Linux, it seems like AIX would be
more popular if IBM tried to be more interoperable with Linux. I have taken
on the policy of not trying to waste a lot of time getting AIX to behave
like Linux and solve these problems externally. I find it humorous that IBM
slams Microsoft AD for not being 100% compliant with the RFC specifications
for LDAP, but then their own syslog service doesn't follow RFC
specifications for message format.
