Ours is a packaged appliance that runs in a customer VM or on a custom
hardware. To diagnose customer issues, we frequently need to get logs. It
takes less time to transfer the zipped up logs from the customer if the
individual logs are kept reasonably small. It also keeps the disk footprint
of our product small. If the logs are segregated into application component
specific files, it is easy for us to look into a specific log file for
errors, and if required, use the timestamps to look for associated lines in
other log files.
I agree that logrotate may be a solution worth looking at. However, I
wanted to know why the output channels worked with property based filters
but not with RainerScripts.
