When I install rsyslog using:

apt-get install rsyslog

I am unable to location the tools directory or the pmrfc3164.c file you
mention in your post.

I have also tried downloading the invidual parts as per the newbie
instructions and am unable to complete the installation.

I have followed your instructions carefully and used apt-get to install all
of the suggested: libjson0-dev, uuid-dev, bison, flex, libz-dev or
python-docutils

I then follow your further instructions to download rsyslog etc.

When I run: ./configure --prefix=/usr

I get: configure: error: Package requirements (liblogging-stdlog >= 1.0.1)
were not met:

         No package 'liblogging-stdlog' found

As a result I can not go any further.

Please help.
