It was a bit tricky to craft a test that creates empty properties, but I
did manage to do so. Test is inside this patch:

It's not exactly what you do, but pretty close. So now either the old
versions have a bug (likely), or there is some other triggering condition.
If it is the latter, you need to update to the currently supported version,
first (v8.19.0 as of this writing), so that we can troubleshoot the issue.
