well, since you are running 5.8 on your central server, all sorts of things
can come into play. IIRC, 5.8 didn't allow double quotes, try your filter
again with single quotes.

I could see the argument against going to all the effort of upgrading lots
of sending machines, but for your central log server, you _really_ want to
upgrade rsyslog on it. You don't need to upgrade the entire OS, just
install the rsyslog packages from the adiscon repo.

If you aren't willing to do that because of 'support issues', then you need
to contact your OS vendor for these questions, not us because you are
refusing to upgrade to current software so that your OS vendor can support
you, use that support.
