Actually, the mailing list has many more people who can reply to requests,
I'd suggest it as the primary.

The most common cause of failed remote logging is iptables blocking the
inbound connections

do iptables -L -n and look for any rules that allow port 514 (udp and tcp)
to get in. You will probably need to add them.
