I actually think the new format is easier to understand. I still have a
hard time with the old format. Also in RHEL 7 I'm noticing that the new
format gives errors. (it may be something I'm doing)

As a user, my biggest complaint with rsyslog is the amount of time I have
wasted trying to make things work in the new format only to find out it
doesn't actually work for whatever reason. I really like the newer syntax
it is much easier to understand, the old format requires more familiarity
with settings while the new format is a lot more intuitive to someone
relatively new to syslog but who has a background in computing.
