Regarding that blog post, I think that didn't materialize (lack of feedback
& no sponsor -> low spot on todo list -> died).

The original idea of liblognorm is that it handles text logs, so everything
returned was string. However, there has been a contribution to permit type
changes (along the lines of "reinterpret" - see doc). I haven't written it
and don't remember the details from when I merged, but I think this could
solve the type issue.

Note that I am about to rewrite large parts of liblognorm and the ability
to require a specific type is on the todo list.
