there have been far too many changes since 5.8 to easily find a change over
so many years.

I thought that RedHat offered at least a 7.x version for everything now, if
not, you will need to take it up with them if you can't upgrade to a
version the community can support.

I would suggest that you ask RedHat about the requirement to stick with
RHEL only packages. I think you will find that if you were to upgrade to a
different rsyslog package, everything would still be supported by redhat
except rsyslog related problems.
