Gentlemen, apologies in advance for what's probably a very noobie question.
I have been modifying my rsyslog.conf file that's in the /etc/rsyslog.d
directory. and, checking the config using /etc/rsyslog.d rsyslogd -N1
It has been checking OK, but I had a message this morning when the rsyslog
-N1 caught some errors after I changed the rsyslog file that said it was
checking /etc/rsyslog.conf. There is an rsyslog.conf there, which is
mostly set to handle imuxsock messages. Is it possible that I've just been
rechecking that file time and time again?
I copied my /etc/rsyslog.d/rsyslog.conf to /etc and have set it as the
/etc/rsyslog.conf. I stopped and restarted rsyslog and the program seems
to be working (I'm seeing impstats stats, but I was seeing them yesterday
too, when I thought the etc/rsyslog.d/rsyslog.conf file was running. I'm
also seeing messages to other files /var/log/messages (and other files I
created for messages.
I would appreciate it if any could set me straight on this. Thank you in
advance for the very basic question.
